Bangladesh Paediatric Association
(BPA) is one of the oldest medical professional associations
in Bangladesh. In 1972 only a few paediatricians initiated
the formation of this association for serving the cause of
children in this country with National Professor M R Khan
as the founding President. At present about 800 (eight hundred)
paediatricians from all corners of Bangladesh including all
medical colleges are members of BPA.
About half of the population of Bangladesh (below 18 years)
are children and under-5 mortality is very high in the region.
BPA is activity engaged in all the sectors related to child
health including improvement of hospital care, newborn care,
immunization, continuous professional development, child rights
and child health policy issues. Bangladesh Paediatric Association
(BPA) functions in close collaboration with the government,
non-government organizations and a good number of paediatric
subspecialty societies committed to the cause of child health
such as Bangladesh Neonatal Forum (BNF), Bangladesh Perinatal
Society (BPS),Paediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh
(PNSB), Association of Paediatric Surgeons of Bangladesh (APSB),
Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Society of Bangladesh
(PHOSB), Bangladesh Pediatric Pulmonology Forum (BPPF), Bangladesh
Society for Child Neurology, Development & Disability
(BSCNDD), Bangladesh Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition
Society (BAPGANS), Bangladesh Society of Pediatric Infectious
Disease (BSPID), Paediatric Cardiac Society of Bangladesh
(PCSB).
Role of BPA is strengthening day by day and BPA is expected
to play a bigger role in the days to come.
